God showed me the vision for Power in Praise Ministries February 1999. It was not until in January 2005 that the Lord directed me and Valerie to act on the vision. Power in Praise Ministries came to fruition while we were living on Oahu, in Hawai`i (the land of Aloha). For it all to come full circle while in Hawai’i was perfect. Hawai’i is gorgeous and her beauty constantly reminds you of God's presence.  Everyday that we were in Hawai’i we could experience the authenticity and the activeness of God in nature. Then again, there are times when we overlook God in nature - not so in Hawai’i. The Hawaiian sunsets, the fiery lava flows of the Big Island. Hawaii’s vibrant green fern forests and hidden waterfalls are so enchanting and attracting that they has such an enormous impact on that it is impossible to overlook the Lord if you know Him. Hawaii's beauty is a constant reminder that God desires all the praise. God used our time in Hawai`i to shape the vision that Valerie and Alex have for Power in Praise Ministries. Valerie and I sat and waited on the Lord about this ministry. We were so excited and ready to go forward, but the "fullness on time" had not yet come. Therefore, we waited, and waited, and waited. We waited while living, working and serving the Lord and enjoying Hawai`i. Sometimes we waited on the beach at sunset. Other times we waited while standing in awe at God’s many waterfalls on Oahu. We waited for God to speak this ministry into be. We waited, and waited, and waited. In January 2005 God spoke. Power in Praise Ministries came alive in 2005. January 15th is the birth date of Power in Praise Ministries.   The transition from Hawai’i to Virginia was not an easy one. The physical relocation was not the problem. The administrative and bureaucratic differences between doing ministry in Hawai’I and doing ministry in Virginia posed the difficulties. Nevertheless, after some administrative negotiating and some bureaucratic readjusting Power in Praise Ministries was officially operating in Newport News, Virginia. On December 5, 2005 Dr. Duncan and Sister Valerie Duncan began conducting bible study in their home. Bible Study was held every Monday night from 06:30pm to 8:00pm.  As the class progressed, the Lord added to them with Ralonda and Kanise Wilson who became fervent supporters of Power in Praise Ministries. As Power in Praise Ministries continued, membership fluctuated.  There were times when membership looked good. There were times when membership did not look too good. It was by the prayers, offerings and tithes of dedicated partners around the country that Power in Praise Ministries, Inc. continued to do what the Lord has purposed us to do. On June 01, 2006 Power in Praise Ministries moved into their first building (12906-B Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, VA). Bible Studies, fellowship dinners, business meeting and counseling sessions are conducted regularly. There has not yet been a Sunday worship service held, but plans are being developed.
